Legally Homeless was created to shine a light on the 9.2 million refugees, and the
25 million internally displaced persons that live throughout fifty two countries in the
world today. Through humor, Mohammed Amer can find a common bond to raise awareness to
these issues. This is not a racial or religious problem, but a worldwide concern that
affects people of every color and religion. Refugees are forced to flee their country
due to fear of danger or persecution, while internally displaced persons are relocated
within their countries borders for the same reason. This leaves almost 35 million
people across the globe displaced from their homes due to tyrannical oppression, and
fear. When this oppression and fear happens in a country, the United Nations steps in
to help that country protect its citizens. We can be the voice that lifts up nations to
help those small groups within a country that have been conveniently forgotten in the
pages of history.
Legally Homeless brings attention to the current barriers that must be overcome by
stateless refugees in the world. Attention to things as seemingly simple as traveling
the world, to those more difficult such as regaining citizenship. Being a citizen of
any country is something most of the world takes for granted. When you have to answer
for your actions at the time of judgment, I doubt there will be a second line for
people without a passport.
The mental revolution is here and can no longer be ignored or denied. Legally Homeless
was started to shine a light on the trials and tribulations that stateless refugees
must deal with on a daily basis. The hoops that they must jump through to live their
lives in the same fashion as a normal citizen are exhaustive and demoralizing. By
raising awareness through a message of laughter and understanding, maybe we can begin
shaping a change for our world that will improve the lives of generations to come.
